3 Reasons to Get Married at Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild
Since opening to the public in 1937 this Italian Renaissance inspired villa has played host to some of the most opulent high-society and celebrity weddings on the Cote d’Azur.
Conceived by the imagination of Baroness Beatrice de Rothschild as her winter home, she had the mansion and gardens constructed over 5 years between 1907-1912. An art lover and enthusiast, the Baroness then filled the home with rare, fine pieces of artwork and furniture.
As is only fitting from a member of the Rothschild family expect to see exclusively pieces of some of finest art and décor item available to the Baroness. These include painted woodwork acquired from the Hotel de Crillon in Paris following a re-fit of the hotel. In the Grand Salon you’ll also be able to enjoy a sumptuous rug which once belonged to Louis XV and decorated with his initials, two large, golden L’s in the middle. The ornate rug is one from a set of four liberated from the chapel of the Palace of Versailles. The other 3 were destroyed by fire during the French Revolution.
But apart from walking in the footsteps of French aristocracy, what other reasons are there to hold your wedding at this captivating villa?
1. Stunning Mediterranean Views
Baroness Rothschild chose this position for her winter villa, not only because Saint Jean Cap Ferrat was the fashionable place where the high society elite gathered, but also because of its peninsular location.
The French Garden was designed to depict the bow of a ship, so when standing in her villa looking out over her gardens with the Mediterranean Sea on both sides of her she felt like she was sailing.
If you have a love of sailing, traveling, or even just a love of being by the sea, this beautiful pink villa in the place for you.
2. Unmissable Artwork
I’ve already mentioned some of the art acquired by Baroness Beatrice as she constructed and furnished the villa. And since her death the various individuals entrusted with maintaining the spirit of the villa have continued to find outstanding pieces of art and décor to adorn its many salons and rooms.
Art enthusiasts shouldn’t miss the opportunity to be photographed on the most important day of their lives in a room filled with antique furniture once owned by Louis XIV and Louis XV.
Every corner of the villa, from the Venetian marble pillars in the reception space, to the intricately decorated tapestries in the Petit Salon are a photographer’s dream. Each angle is a portrait waiting to happen.
3. Iconic Building
The Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild is arguably the most recognisable and iconic wedding venue on the Cote d’Azur. Nothing says opulence like seeing a photograph of a couple with the pink walls of the villa behind them, or framed by the greenery of the French garden, a popular ceremony spot.
There’s simply no villa or chateau in the region quite like the Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild. This is why it’s the clear choice for a couple looking to host a lavish, luxuriant wedding in the south of France.
